Example letter

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Java Developer role. During my B.Tech in Information Technology I focused on backend development with Java and Spring Boot, and I enjoy designing APIs that are simple to use and hard to break.

My final-year project was a library management system with Spring Boot, JPA and PostgreSQL, serving 1,200 books and 300 student accounts. I designed its REST endpoints, handled validation and errors consistently, and wrote JUnit tests that covered 80 percent of the service layer. During a six-week internship I fixed defects in an existing Java codebase, which taught me to read unfamiliar code carefully before changing it.

Your team builds services with Spring Boot, microservices and SQL databases, and these are exactly the skills I have practised. I am also comfortable with Git and code reviews. I would be glad to discuss how I can contribute to your backend team.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
